Another Reason We like freedom: A recent article on executive pay at Hewlett-Packard listed some really big numbers!
- CEO Mark Hurd 2008 $43 million
- CIO Randy Mott $28 million
- Imaging executive vice president Vyomesh Joshi $22 million
- Personal Systems EVP Todd Bradley, Technology Solutions’ EVP Ann Livermore $21 million each
I’m fine with spectacular executive pay packages at public companies, if executives can get it legally. I just don’t want to be an employee or investor there.
We’ve always known “the man” or “the company” makes a little extra from our inputs by combining them with other inputs and creating value. This is the deal. This is the way the economy works. But is all that bounty getting hoarded at the top? That’s when I would hesitate, if I were an employee or investor.
I would have no problem working for a company like H-P as a Free Agent. I will absolutely give my best effort, intellectual acuity and emotional commitment to the work or project I’ve signed-up to do. I want that sense of accomplishment and a good client reference. Even more, it’s a fair exchange of value, and all the terms are visible.
